Title: Revised process coupling reduces time-step sensitivities in subtropical low clouds in EAMv1
Abstract:
Our SciDAC team has been working on quantifying, attributing, and addressing time integration errors related to EAM’s physics parameterizations. In this webinar, I will present some recent results to show that two revisions to the numerical coupling of atmospheric processes lead to a signficant reduction of time-step sensitivities in the subtropical stratocumulus and trade cumulus regimes simulated by EAMv1. The remaining sensivities appear to be associated with deep convection and high clouds. I will also briefly discuss plans for next steps.
