Title: E3SMv1.1 Biogeochemistry simulation campaign – overview of configuration and historical simulations

Abstract:

This talk will present a high-level overview of the model configuration and historical simulations from the E3SMv1.1 biogeochemistry simulation campaign.  The E3SMv1.1-BGC model configuration includes active biogeochemistry in the land, ocean, and ice components.  In the v1 simulation campaign, we explored the impacts of structural uncertainty and nutrient limitation in the land model, and their implications for the strength of the carbon-climate feedbacks.  Additionally, we evaluated the behavior of the BEC ocean biogeochemistry module within the MPAS-O ocean model and identified several important biases, which will be addressed in v2 developments.
