Implementation of UNICON into ACME
Abstract
UNICON is a unified convection and a subgrid vertical transport scheme by nonlocal asymmetric turbulent eddies. UNICON simulates all dry-moist, forced-free, and shallow-deep convection within a single framework in a seamless, consistent and unified way. With a brief introduction of UNICON, it will be shown that UNICON implemented into ACME substantially improves the simulations of both mean climate and variabiities. During initial implementation of UNICON, we came across an issue with the transport scheme of the Spectral Element dynamic core. A fix was implemented so the simulated climate by the SE dycore is close to that by the FV dycore.
