Ice/Ocean Breakout Summary Page
*** Summary Presentation for Discussion ***
Summary of broad points agreed upon in breakout:
- We need to put more effort into completing and doing a careful analysis of core-forced runs at intermed. res. (RRS30to10). This will require moving from LANL IC to DOE capability / capacity machines.
- W.r.t. coupled run, biggest concern is SST biases. These don't show up as bad in core-forced runs, suggesting that item 1 above might help w/ understanding these and fixing them.
- We've done well on, and are happy with analysis support on the model side. We need to follow up by: i) getting under version control and expanding user base within the project, ii) make sure that necessary obs. are available on target meshes so that we can do model to obs. comparisons (latter necessary for full support of all metrics)
- We need atmos. model init. cond. on ne16 grid for support of low-res runs.
- We need to revisit the simulation plan regarding ice sheets in a wider setting (e.g., coupled model sim. team) to determine, i) if / when we include ice shelf cavity circulation capability in production, coupled runs (e.g., what bar do we need to get over to show now harm being done to global sim. and or there is added value?), ii) what is plan, if any, regarding dynamic ice sheets (e.g., can ice/ocean group come up with plan to conduct credible, offline-forced, dynamic ice sheet runs using output from coupled model?).
