Talking points on Radiative Transfer

From an email that Phil wrote to Robert Pincus:

1) new capabilities of the radiation package (non-LTE? Shell core optics for aerosols? different treatment for ice crystal optics?, different spectral intervals?)

2) interface to simulators? (radar, lidar, etc)

3) diagnostics?

4) whether there will be a new software interface, and how it might differ, so we have a sense for what changes will be needed. Any changes in ways that physical properties of radiatively active species are calculated (e.g “physprop files”)?

5) a brief statement about performance issues

6) capabilities for doing “offline” calculations, e.g. radiative kernels, replacement for PORT, automated methods for dumping datasets that could be used by offline tools

7) anything else you think I would care about
