WCRP CMIP International Project Office is soliciting feedback for the CMIP7 Data Request. Detailed instruction is outlined on the v1.0beta release webpage. Submission deadline is 23:59 UTC on 17th November 2024. Feedback submitted after this date is still welcome and will be considered for v1.1 later this year.
One consolidated response from each modelling centre should be provided on the spread sheet: link for modelling centres.

This page provides background information on E3SM's current CMIP contributions and potential contributions to CMIP7, as well as simplified instructions for navigating the CMIP7 Data Request to gather feedback from component and science group leads.
Background information on E3SM’s CMIP contribution
Experiments we routinely produce for CMIP6:
DECK+: DECK, DAMIP (e.g. single-forcing simulations), one or two scenarios for ScenarioMIP.
Some possibilities proposed by Chris Golaz and Wuyin Lin for CMIP7:
Forcing data for CMIP7 is scheduled to release March 2025. Still need to be made ready for E3SM.
Standard output variables we reformat and submit to CMIP:
For v1 and v2 simulation campaigns, we submit around 130 variables per coupled simulation (cmorized data size is at 3GB per year). This variable list is highly correlated to the CMIP7 requested core set of Base line climate variables for earth system model output (one of the so-called Opportunity variable groups). This is an all-purpose set of variables suitable for any MIPs, targeting 132 variables.
Default Set of Model Output for ESGF publication
For v3, Before launching v3 simulation campaign, Chris led this effort to better define simulation output, and we also engaged component group leaders for CMIP variable contribution. The feedback as I recall is listed as follows:
· Atmosphere and Land, the variables to contribute would be the intersection of model output and the CMIP DECK requested
· Output from MPAS sea-ice will remain the v2 output list.
Which means E3SM v3 will contribute to CMIP6 much more than 130 variables. And from Infrastructure side, we are planning to expand e3sm_to_cmip for adding new atmosphere and land variables.
Provide feedback to CMIP7 data request
Navigate the data table:
Navigate to the online database (hosted on Airtable),
Go over the title of Opportunities groups, and find the groups of interests.
Filtering data request for Opportunities of interests (Click this link for guidance: e.g. Find a list of the variables required for a given Opportunity).
Same operations can be done through below Excel Spreadsheet, but can be straining on your eyes.
Potential feedback:
Based on the identified opportunities/variable groups:
What additional experiments (besides DECK+) could benefit E3SM and should be considered for inclusion in future simulation campaigns, contributing to CMIP7?
Are there any key variables missing from our simulation campaign and CMIP contributions?
Are there any key simulations and variables produced by E3SM that are not included in the CMIP7 data request, which we should consider suggesting to CMIP?
Please leave any comments or updated Excel Spreadsheets (not required) in the below comment space. We will document, consolidate and send a copy to CMIP IPO.
