Although standard diagnostics of atmosphere simulations, such as mean and variability assessments, can give useful insights into the aspects of climate they do not give much insight into the operation of individual parameterizations for particular dynamic or thermodynamic regimes. Such insights are invaluable as the can either confirm or refute certain expectations as to the functioning of a particular new or existing parameterizations scheme and its relative role as part of a complete parameterization suite.
