Abstract | EAMxx currently uses a home-built YAKL port of the RTE+RRTMGP broadband radiation scheme. Here we’ll describe changes to the reference implementation of the scheme that may be of interest for modeling efforts going forward. There are enhanced scientific capabilities (e.g. some ability to account for the spherical nature of the atmosphere, the ability to include topographic effects in both LW and SW calculations, and more accurate methods to include scattering in longwave calculations). The computational ecosystem has become more flexible through the addition of C++ interfaces to the computational kernels and CUDA implementations of those kernels; all components of the system co-evolve and are tested continuously. |
