Abstract

The satellite and ground-based simulators are developed to facilitate direct comparison of modeled clouds with detailed observations. For the ACME project, the cloud diagnostics from satellite simulator output were added in UVCDAT and the Tier 1b cloud collection has been implemented to the diagnostics package in the UVCDAT framework. In addition, a ground-based ARM radar simulator is also applied to ACME to compare its simulated clouds with ARM data. The poster shows preliminary results on using Tier 1b cloud collection to evaluate clouds simulated by ACME at 1 degree and 0.25 degree resolutions in its AMIP runs, as well as using the ARM radar simulator to evaluate clouds in ACME day 2 hindcasts at the ARM Southern Great Plains site. Problems for simulator implementation and technical issues with developing the ARM radar simulator are discussed.
