  NERSC Directory Change Notice

Due to project's name change at NERSC from 'ACME' to 'E3SM' and NERSC’s file system update, the directory  '/project/projectdirs/acme/' is now '/cfs/cdirs/e3sm'

This page should describe Validation Tests performed for this stand alone feature and should provide links to all the result pages.

Summary

Validation is against the default ne30 FC5AV1C-L compset. We follow the standard procedure of running 6 years and obtaining annual and seasonal climotology results using e3sm_diags from years 2-6.

Validation Test 1

The first set of results are here: NERSC Portal viewer of ne30pg2 vs default ne30np4

I looked at lat-lon, lat-pressure, and line plots carefully. Almost all look excellent. TREFHT has biases likely due to not using an initialization file for land; in particular, the differences in land configuration for ne30np4 and ne30pg2 are as follows:

lnd_in
  ne30
   fatmlndfrc = '/project/projectdirs/acme/inputdata/share/domains/domain.lnd.ne30np4_gx1v6.110905.nc'
   finidat = '/project/projectdirs/acme/inputdata/lnd/clm2/initdata_map/clmi.ICLM45BC.ne30_ne30.d0241119c.clm2.r.nc'
   fsurdat = '/project/projectdirs/acme/inputdata/lnd/clm2/surfdata_map/surfdata_ne30np4_simyr2000_c180306.nc'
  ne30pg2
   fatmlndfrc = '/global/cscratch1/sd/ambradl/acme_scratch/cori-knl/domain.lnd.ne30pg2_gx1v6.190806.nc'
   finidat = ' '
   fsurdat = '/project/projectdirs/acme/inputdata/lnd/clm2/surfdata_map/surfdata_ne30pg2_simyr2000_c190408.nc'

This hypothesis is supported by the fact that T looks excellent in the lat-long 850 and 200mb plots and the lat-pressure plots.

How was XXX be tested? i.e. how do we know when we have met requirement XXX. Will these unit tests be included in the ongoing going forward?
