Abstract

The “Short Simulations” task team of the atmosphere group has been exploring the feasibility and usefulness of short (2-10 days) simulations for the purpose of efficiently evaluating and tuning the atmosphere model. A key component of this task is to identify the processes and physical quantities that can be reasonably characterized by short simulations. We have compared model biases and sensitivities to parameter changes in short and long simulations for a variety of quantities along the GPCI transect. These results start to give a clearer understanding about the strengths and limitations of the short simulations.
